Apples erstes Headset soll Ende 2022 auf den Markt kommen und in 10 Jahren das iPhone ersetzen

Augmented und Virtual Reality könnten in den Augen Apples der nächste große Wurf auf dem Technologiemarkt sein. So soll man nach Informationen des bekannten Apple-Analysten Ming-Chi Kuo in Cupertino planen, das iPhone in zehn Jahren durch Augmented Reality, mutmaßlich eine smarte Brille, abzulösen (via MacRumors). Einen wichtigen Schritt in diese Richtung habe man bereits gemacht, indem man einen verstärkten Fokus auf die Dienste-Sparte legt, die sich in den vergangenen Jahren zu den beiden anderen Standbeinen Hardware und Software hinzugesellt hat. Wichtig für den Erfolg der kommenden Mixed-Reality-Headsets aus Cupertino sei, dass diese unabhängig vom iPhone operieren können. Es müsse laut Kuo sein eigenes Ökosystem entwickeln und ein komplettes und flexibles Nutzererlebnis bieten.

Die erste Version eines solchen Headsets erwartet Kuo für das Ende kommenden Jahres. Dieses dürfte zwar noch weit von dem entfernt sein, womit Apple später das iPhone ersetzen könnte, es bereitet jedoch den Weg dorthin. Und diesen will Apple offenbar mit aller Macht gehen. Unter anderem soll die Haupt-CPU ähnlich dem M1-Chip sein, der bereits in verschiedenen Macs zum Einsatz kommt. Hiermit soll dann auch die erste Version des Headsets bereits unabhängig von einem iPhone arbeiten können. Anders also als dies beispielsweise bei der ersten Apple Watch der Fall war. Auf dem Headset soll dann ein breites Spektrum von Anwendungen ausgeführt werden können.

Zusätzlich zu Augmented Reality soll das Gerät laut Kuo auch über Virtual Reality verfügen, was durch zwei 4K Micro OLED Displays von Sony und eben den M1-Chip ermöglicht werden soll. Bereits in der vergangenen Woche hatte Kuo berichtet, dass das Headset sehr wahrscheinlich Wi-Fi 6E unterstützen wird, um die Latenz zu verringern und einen möglichst hohen Datendurchsatz zu erzielen, was für AR- und VR-Anwendungen relevant ist.
